1997 Dodge Ram 1500

I purchased the Gibson sideswept single outlet 3" exhaust for my 1997 Dodge Ram extended cab. It was delived very fast right to the front porch. I paid $186 which was a steal. I thought that there had to be a catch. It is not stainless steel. All of the required parts were in the box and nothing was missing. The first thing that concerned me was that the new muffler was longer and bigger than the stock muffler and I was hoping for a louder sound. But I decided to proceed forward because I listended to the system on Youtube beforehand and really liked it. In order to install the system by yourself, you really should have a sawz-all. The stock bolts were all frozen. Some exhaust clamps were so rusted that they snapped off thankfully. I had to cut off one nut with the sawz-all. I tried to heat it with mapp gas without any success. There is a lot of twisting and turning your body under the truck. I am 47 and was pretty sore afterwards but I work behind a desk.The other tricky part is the head pipe located between the cat and the muffler. This pipe must be re-used. However, it was not removable because the old exhaust clamp made an indentation all the way around the pipe and it wouldn't pull apart. I had to cut the headpipe where it connected to the muffler inlet and lost about 2 inches of the headpipe. Unfortunately, those 2 inches would have come in handy to connect the new system. The kit comes with an adapter that allows the old 2.5" headpipe to fit with the new 3" muffler. The 2 inches cut off the headpipe would have made it easier to fit the new system in place. As a result, you must "stretch" the system to its limit and there is barely just enough for the new clamp to grab down on the old headpipe. However, I was able to make it work somehow. Ideally, you would have a muffler shop install the system but I could not wait to get it on. If it were not for this fitment issue I would have given 5 stars.The system comes with a beautiful chrome tip that looks just awesome. I was a little nervous over what it would sound like. One turn of the key and it roared to life. It sounds better than I could have imagined. It relieves back pressure and the throttle response is so much better. The system has a deep, aggressive tone. My daught said she could hear me drive around the block. The sound really kicks in around 1750 RPM. I am absolutely thrilled with the result and would highly recommend.
