5Good performance but noisy.
By Wack
I recently purchased PowerSlot rotors and Akebono ceramic pads. I wasn't happy with this combination and decided to try Hawk HPS pads. I found the Hawk HPS pads to have superior performance but with some minor drawbacks. The Hawk HPS pads had noticeably more stopping power, a more linear feel, and much less brake fade. Unfortunately, the Hawk HPS pads are significantly noisier than the Akebono ceramic pads and also produce more brake dust. My primary goals are safety and performance. So I am very satisfied with the Hawk HPS pads.

5Excellent pads
By WaterBoy
Installed on my 2003 work van. Better than anything I previously installed. Much less dust than the ceramics I did have. I did install new rotors as well. Stops great. No fading. No squealing.

4Good pads...too bad they don't make them for the G80 rear end
By Nitrousbird
I have had these pads on the front of my '02 Avalanche for a little over a year.Compared to factory and the low-priced aftermarket stuff, these pads are noticably better with no other modifications to the braking system. Firmer pedal and stops better. Brake dust isn't bad either. I do have three complaints about these pads / Hawk:#1: Squeak under light braking. Off the brakes or on them hard and not a peep.#2: Most 02-06 Avalanche owners either have the Z71 package (4WD) or Z66 package (2WD). Both of these packages come with G80 locker rear end with dual piston calipers. The problem - Hawk doesn't sell the SuperDuty pad for those calipers. That's a deal breaker if you are replacing all four pads. The funny thing is most buyers that buy base model vehicles usually aren't the type that are going to spend the money on pads like these.#3: Hawk's customer service. I am doing the GMT900 brake upgrade and doing pads all around (among a bunch of other brake related things). Hawk's website, through figuring out what they option, thinks all 2002 2WD Avalanches are Z66 optioned and all 4WD Avalanches are non-Z71...even though most of the 4WD trucks are Z71 optioned. So I e-mail Hawk trying to see if there is an alternative pad I can use. No response after a couple of days. I then try calling multiple times (4ish on a Wednesday) and still no call back after leaving a message. It is obvious they don't care about getting my businessIt sucks, as I wanted to go with these pads again. The fact my internet searches have turned up no part number for the rear pads + lack of customer support, I have now placed an order for EBC Yellow Stuff pads all around.

4Noisy Hawk Pads
By AndyB
I've had Hawk pads before so I expected a lot when I got these for my Avalanche. Avalanches are somewhat notorious for stopping poorly, at least around my area. They didn't quite fit when I installed them; they were extremely tight in the slides. I actually ended up trimming some of the backing plate off to make them slide in easier. After I finally got them installed, the stopping performance was just so-so. Improved from my previous setup, but not by much. Although I haven't bedded them in yet, which should help. They squeal incessantly. Cruising with no brakes, they squeal. On braking, they squeal. Even with the windows up you can hear it. My previous Hawk pads squealed on light braking, but that was it. If I had to do it over again, I would buy a nicer pad, maybe something ceramic, and have a quiet ride.

4Great pads
By D. Sauer
== Aug 28, 2011 ==These pads, once they've been bedded in (which takes around 1K miles), do a very good job. I used these on both the front and rear of my '95 BMW 740i, and I'm quite happy with the performance. I replaced the rotors with cheap Centric non-drilled non-slotted rotors, and they still work very well with my "enthusiastic" driving. They seem to be creating a lot of dust, but I've only used them for a couple thousand miles so far; that could be a result of the bedding process. Never the less, I've used EBC Green Stuff on other large cars (such as my Grand Marquis and Tahoe) recently, but will probably be switching to Hawk pads next time I need to replace my pads on those cars. The one star deducted is for the relatively high (but not unreasonable) initial amount of dust. I'll post a follow-up later on if I remember.== Edit, 5/14/2013 ==It's now time to replace the front pads and rotors, as the wear sensor is burned through and the squealing metal tab is squealing to let me know that I'm a terrible person who doesn't maintain my car. :) I got around 50-60K miles out of the frictions. The dust subsides fairly quickly after the initial bedding process, though, and I still recommend Hawk frictions.

5Best for street driving
By R. Berrington
I have used Hawk Performance brake pads for about ten years now on three cars. They seem to stop about a car length better then standard pads with no squealing or major dust. I have used race pads before but they have both those problems and need a couple stops to warm up to operating temperature so they are not smart for driving on the street but great for the race track. Hawk is best for the street or if you want to autocross where you may not have time to warm up the pads. Lasts about 30k miles on the front and 50k miles on the back.

5Great autocross and street pad
By Chris
I bought these for my single piston front caliper, 4-bolt 1987 RX-7 GX to replace some Monroe ceramic pads that were on the car. This car only sees street driving between autocross events and is driven at the events. I find the dust to be tolerable, although a bit on the high side, there is virtually no noise and these pads bedded in quickly without much fuss on brand new rotors. After 15 events and 3000km of street driving with these pads the rotors still have the machining marks just barely visible on the surface and there is no measurable wear of the pads so they seem to be easy on rotors and have good life. I found the Monroe ceramics took a really long time to warm up and had almost no bite when they were cold, often requiring both feet on the brake pedal and standing right out of my seat while still being unable to lock up the RS-3s on the front or rear wheels, then they would reach a point where they were warm enough to work decently. With the Hawk HPS pads I have no issues with braking ability warm or cold and they have a nice predictable feel to them when you are trying to find the lock-up point braking into a corner. These are obviously not suitable in any way for a full track car but they are an excellent street/autocross pad and if I ever wear them out or get another car I wouldn't hesitate to buy another set! The only oddity I have found with these pads is that with the old ceramic pads my front tires would lock first, even if I was already turning into a corner when I started braking, while with these pads no matter the situation my rear wheels always lock first. It wasn't hard to adapt to but the first time it happened on a course it was a little surprising.

4Good fit on by '97 subaru outback
By Marc R. Baril
This is the rear converter on the 1997 Subaru outback 2.5L engine. The fit and finish look good, although perhaps not as good as the Subaru part. The placement of the O2 sensor is slightly forward compared to the OEM part and I had to "modify" (i.e. cut) my exhaust shield slightly to make it fit. See my review on the other Walker components for the '97 subaru outback for more details if you are replacing other parts of your exhaust.
