I tried a friend's very similar to this. Also bought a different type that uses the rubber straps for securing. I prefer these plates that screw down. Also, my friend's bolts are shorter, so with bikes with fat bars, you had to use an adapter. Still have to use adapter for one 24" bike, but the 26" bike has enough clearance between bars to slide the bottom plate through. Just wish it would swing down for easier access to liftgate.

Very good hitch rack, but can be improved

My old bike rack was a twin-arm rack, and it was a hassle to carry smaller-frame bikes (such as kids' bikes and smaller-frame women's bikes), because the distance between the twin arms is too large for those frames.I'm glad I switched to this OSI tray-type hitch rack. No such issues carrying smaller-frame bikes.As nice as this rack is, there are issues:1. This OSI rack did not come with a bolt for mounting to a hitch. That is a very bad omission. I had to buy the Graber mounting bolt and securing bracket separately.2. The hole for the fastening bolt is too close to the end of the mounting tube, which I feel puts too much leverage on a hitch receiver. I drilled another fastening hole about 5 inches further up the mounting tube so it inserts much further into my hitch receiver, for a more secure mount.3. The carrier cradles on the tray will carry road bikes with their narrow drop bars easily, but these are too closely-spaced to carry hybrid bikes. If they can be spaced just a couple inches further apart this would be a winner.Aside from those three issues, this is a very good hitch-mounted bike rack indeed.

I have found this bike rack to be very user friendly. I use it at least once a week and have had no trouble with it at all. Have even taken my bike on a 3 hr. trip with no problems. I like it a lot.
