5outstanding kit
By Mark Stanley
I purchased a 93 mark viii and had immediate problems with the air ride. All of the air struts leaked, and replacing them at approx $200 ea (front more, rear less) did not guarantee a solution. Chances were almost 100% I would need a new compressor and dryer for another $250.00. So, the repairing the air system was not practical. I then began looking for alternatives. There are best I can tell 4 companies that make conversion kits. All of the kits if including rear shocks sell from about $700 and up, without rear shocks, about $550, and another $60 on shipping. Amazon had the monroe kit for 431$ with free shipping. The kit arrives in 3 boxes, two boxes contain one front each, the third contains the two rear and the shocks. I did not have any problem getting the right parts, or incomplete kits. The first one was perfect. The appearance of the parts was exceptional. They were all covered in a heavy black coating, and contained very clear instructions to uninstall the air, install the springs and how to PROPERLY disconnect the air system from the computer so no errors are generated. Its a couple of wires, and some of the online kits said to pull a connector. The monroe kit said snip a few specific wires. I was very impressed by this. The installation went very smoothly, taking me about 3 hours to perform. I am no super mechanic nor do I have a lift. I used a floor jack and hand tools just like most people would. I had no problems. After it was installed, the car sat about 24" off ground (specs) which was within lincoln specs. I drove the car and had a squeak, but some silicone lube got rid of that. It handled much better, didn't feel as soft and mushy as it did with air, and so I am very happy.I would wholeheartedly recommend this kit over any of the others. Its from a reputable company who obviously has the resources to perform the R&D to make the specs right/components right, and will stand behind any issues. You may not get that from a small suspension company.I hope this helps, do not feel intimidated or reluctant about making this conversion. Air is not practical due to cost, and doing nothing is not pracitcal. Mine would leak out so the car was rubbing on all four wheels. It is not driveable if the air system fails. Even if brand new it could fail, and for that reason, I would only use the springs.

4Cost Effective Conversion
By Skeechmaster
I first bought a set of these Monroe's to convert my brother's 92 Continental from Amazon. I was incorrectly shipped the wrong items. There were only 3 boxes/struts. Amazon staff was very helpful. They tried to round up what I need, but was unable to. I ended up having to ship back all 3 items and get a refund. I bought the same kit from a local parts store and guess what... I got the wrong items AGAIN. In the end, I was able to determine that there were 2 sets in the local store's warehouse and the first set was incorrectly pulled when it was first sent to the store by my house. When they sent the 2nd set from the warehouse to the store by my house so I could try and get a complete set, I left the store with a complete set and I left a complete set at the store. This means the 2nd set in the warehouse was wrong too. Sorry about the babbling here, but MAKE SURE YOU HAVE THE CORRECT NUMBERS !! Monroe's numbering system is as much of a dyslexia test as it is to keep track of their parts.. The entire kit is 90001. The individual boxes are like 900101, 9010110.. and so on. The kit is essentially 2 front struts and 2 rears. However, It's the extra's in each box that makes the kit complete. The instructions were fairly clear and there is a module you get to plug into the ABS diagnostic lead in the trunk to ensure the Air Ride warning will stop "dinging" at you. If you want the exact ride your car had with air shocks, you'll have to spend the big bucks. But if you want a cost-effective replacement and keep the car safe and on the road, this is a good kit....
