4Installs with Velcro
By Adrian
The description, "This deflector installs with the help of "No-Holes-To-Drill" technology and can be removed easily for quick cleaning," led me to believe that this screw or clip mounting that used the existing under hood design to mount so it wouldn't require any drilling.I have a 1994 Toyota camry and my packet used velcro with double sticky tape. The instructions were not specific for my product and it was confusing. It also did not address the velcro installation. It would have helped a lot if they produced a youtube video to show how to install it.The velcro mount proved to be challenging. The deflector has premounted 4 1/2 inch velcro circles with double sticky mounting tape. The 2 of the circles are designed to be near the center of the hood, deep and close to the base. The outer 2 circles were higher up on the product. It is difficult to accurately install velcro on a car hood to match both car and deflector. I ended up pulling the velcro off a couple of times and remounting to get it right. It would have helped during the dry fit process to mark the position on the hood of the car with a felt tip pen. Then separate the velcro and install the car portion on the mark. Then install the deflector and attach it to the velcro/car. Again, if the company had a youtube video to show the installation and any hints, that would have helped a lot.The outer velcro circles were higher on the product, where the flange bends up to deflect the air. This puts a natural strain on the velcro and I don't know how well it will hold. The product would be better and hold better to the car if the outer velcro circles were 1/2 inch closer to the base.I also bought 1 packet of adhesion promoter (cost about $2) to help with the bonding. You can buy this at your local auto parts store.Overall the product came in on time and the price was fair. The velcro design is interesting and I'll see how easy it is to remove the deflector for cleaning. For now I am leaving the deflector on the car to allow the adhesion to cure and bond tight.2 weeks later...I resecured the end velcros with addtional double sticky tape and it seems to hold well. After a few weeks I noticed leaves building behind the deflector. With the use of dull tool (butter knife) I carefully separated the velcro from each other and without disturbing the double sticky tape mount. It came off quickly and I could easily clean it of debri. There is an additional benefit from the velcro. It helps to dampen it so there wasn't any rattling sound common with other bug deflector designs. It also helps to keep the deflector from touching my hood leaving the car finish undisturbed.I ended up being impressed with the design and will increase the rating. It is a little too big (by 5 mm) to fit properly on my Toyota Camry. It hits my headlight but seems to be ok. It would still be a lot better if the manufacturer or supplier would record a youtube video on proper/easier installation of this product.
