The heavy duty construction provides continuous high RPM operation and the redesigned high flow valves ensure adequate fuel delivery. 4Good pump but not quite as advertised
By Eddie
This is a great pump and it works just as designed. The only problem is that all of my research indicated that this pump does not need a fuel pressure regulator for carburator applications. My research came directly from the Holley website so it should be good data right? Well, not so. When I installed the pump the pressure was too high keeping the needle valves in the float bowls open. This let gas just pour down the throat of the carb flooding the engine. I ended up buying and installing a fuel pressure regulator and it fixed the problem perfectly. You would think that a Holley pump would bolt right up and work fine for a Holley carb. Unfortunately, the regulator and the reworking of the fuel lines to accomodate the regulator cost me an extra $150. Now most of that cost was due to having stainless braided hose installed for the fuel lines and I also installed a fuel pressure gauge on the regulator for future diagnosing and troubleshooting. The actual cost overage for a "standard" application just to add a regulator is about $50 plus whatever reworking of the fuel lines cost you. The pump works great and the finish looks awesome when bolted to the engine (especially if you have other dress up goodies on it!!!). I gave the pump of rating of 4 because it does what it's supposed to do and looks great doing it. It just puts out too much pressure. When you work around engines long enough you come to expect little issues like this to come up every now and then so I'm used to it. Some others reading this might not share my optimism. Less knowledgeable people replacing a pump might not know why the carb is pouring out gas and flooding the engine after a pump replacement either so hopefully this review is educational as well as informative.
