4Sounds good, some reliability issues
By Burt Twangcaster
I have had this mixer for several years. I use it only for live performance. During the first year, the second channel started to go bad. It works fine when first plugged in, but after a while the signal level will weaken and finally go out altogether. All the other channels and features work great. It sounds excellent. Bummer to lose a channel though. Haven't bothered to try to get it fixed because I don't need all the channels anyway.

5Affordable audio control
By Chance
Since I already own a couple of power amps, I opted for a non-powered mixer at a good price. Having a life of experience with electronics maintenance, I know that anything that handles a lot of power is more prone to malfunction. They boast new, quiet operational amplifiers (they have come a long way) in this model, and I will vouch that, given the number of amps/buffers that a signal travels through in a mixer, the signal-to-noise ratio is pretty good. There are plenty of inputs and outputs to provide versatility, and allow for stand-alone units to do what they do best, if you need additional signal processing. You can download (from Behringer) the PDF manual and even a block diagram for the 2442FX (the manual actually covers 4 similar models); I think that would be better than my mumbo jumbo here about the technical aspects of the product. Also, reviews have said the USB models only output main signal to the computer, and I wanted a mixer for live music anyway, so choosing such a model was not a priority for me.I like having sub channels. I like the stereo aux return controls explained in section 2.3.5, pg 9 of the manual, allowing for monitoring of instrument effects. It is a nice looking box, comes with rails for rack mounting. It was shipped the same day as I ordered it, and I received it two days later, I am sure because the warehouse is close to me. I have purchased a couple of items from Musician's Friend, and both have been great.Hope this helps..happy jamming.

1Unacceptable reliability for us
By Strat Man
My band used this mixer for live performances. We went through two of these mixers before giving up on Behringer mixers. Within 6 weeks, 2 channels on the first mixer failed. We were able to return it for a refund. We decided to give Behringer another chance, and bought another. Within a year, 4 (FOUR!) channels had failed. We do not abuse our equipment at all; the mixer was always transported in a padded case, and always handled carefully. We replaced the second Behringer with a Mackie Onyx 1640. Yes, it's a lot more expensive. But nothing has failed in years of use, the preamps are better, and we can focus on our music rather than worry about when the next channel will fail.Kudos to those who have managed to get 5-star performance out of this mixer; our experience differed radically. I expect it might be more reliable in a fixed installation.A side note: The built in reverb is poor quality. If you rely on reverb, you will be better served by adding an external reverb unit. Also, I wouldn't cast the same net over all Behringer products. Their Ultra-DI DI-100, for example, is a very good, rock-solid product. I recommend you go read Ben McClure's review of the DI-100. His comments about value vs. quality with respect to Behringer products are spot on.
