3Wrong item but works fine
By Mike
I ordered the PIE VW02-AUX for my 2004 Passat wagon. I wanted the unit which plugged in the back of the double din Monsson radio, because I didn't not want to run wires fron the back of the car to my zune player up front. What I was sent was the PIE VW-AUX which is designed to plug into the spare plug for the optional CD changer in the rear left side of the wagon. I had the same trouble with the connector as the 1st reviewer of this item posted. I wish I had seen his review first. One of the pins actual pushed out of the back of the connector. Fortunately this was an unused power ground which doesn't seem to be used. So it worked fine even though one pin was not connected. Unfortunatly I have this wire draped over the seats coming out of the back of the car. Beware if you are ordering this item that you get what you order. The item is advertised as VW02-AUX which should plug directly into the radio. I got the VW-AUX which plugs into a connector in the trunk. Looking at the previous reviews of this item. One was used for the radio and the other used for the trunk. It looks like you could get either unit when you order through Amazon!

5Super easy install, and does exactly what it is supposed to do
By Douglas Graves
I'm not a car stereo technician by any means, but this install took me about twenty minutes from start to finish. Super easy, you just pull the factory unit out (you'll have to purchase some vw/audi car stereo removal keys [I'd recommend getting 4 of them]), unplug the 6 cd changer, and replace it with the cable from the PIE unit. I then hooked up a Monster Cable iCable RCA cable to the RCA jacks, and tucked this unit down below the stereo unit's slot. I'm not sure if the anatomy of the dash is the same on all VWs, but on my 2004 Golf, there was even a small rectangular hole between the ashtray area and the bottom of the temperature controls to slip the iCable out.Once you put everything back the way it was, you just flip the factory stereo on as if you were playing the first disc in your cd changer, and everything works great. I'd recommend the Monster Cable iCable because it carries great a quality signal, and has a nylon woven sheath, which has probably kept me from messing the cable up by slamming it in the door and other such silly things. Also, don't turn your iPod etc all the way up, but maybe leave it at like 3/4 volume--otherwise, the signal sounds somewhat distorted and "hot".Great converter though, and really easy to install. Obviously, this is a billion times better than the terrible FM iPod integration solutions that are out there, especially if you live in a big city.

3Converts to Mono
By Gary Hays
The biggest flaw with this product is that it seems to convert to mono from stereo audio sources. It's certainly not perfect, but what kind of solution for 9+ year old cars could be? This might not even b an issue for everyone who purchases it. The only other problem is that during the install finding a ground can be frustrating. The difficulty of the install is moderate, though special tools are required to remove the radio and getting the unit into a place where it fits is difficult without removing dash panels.Overall it gets the job done, but isn't a perfect product because of the stereo issue.
