Product Description

AEM pioneered the Cold Air induction system for sport compact cars in 1994. A Cold Air intake system relocates the filter outside of the engine compartment to deliver the coolest air inlet temperatures possible. Cooler air carries more oxygen, which translates into a more intense explosion in the combustion chamber to create more horsepower and torque. But that's only part of the power equation. Tuning the inlet pipe in length and diameter to match the engine's resonance helps move more air to the cylinders (think of your engine as a big air pump), and this tuning allows us to deliver the maximum power gains throughout the entire RPM range. We also monitor fuel trim correction factors and all OBDII sensors during R&D to eliminate leaning the engine out and/or throwing a check engine light. Our Cold Air systems are dyno-proven and tested against the competition with the goal of creating more useable power than any other system of their kind. Every AEM Cold Air induction system features the highest standards of construction and we are so confident in their fit and performance that we guarantee them for the life of your vehicle. All AEM Cold Air systems are either 50-state legal or pending (excluding "Off Road" and "Hybrid" systems), include a lifetime DRYFLOW Synthetic air filter and come with a limited lifetime warranty.

52001 Plymouth Neon
By Adam
The removal and install took just under an hour. It significantly increased HP and fuel economy by 5mpg. I would suggest this for anyone to increase performance all around.

4Marginal Power Gains
By Ryan H. Hanson
The intake took about 2 hours to install, the hardest part was the removal of the old system. To do it you have to remove the driver's headlight and loosen the screws in the wheel well (not needed but makes it easier. Have a Haynes Haynes Dodge Neon 2000 thru 2003 (Haynes Manuals) or Chiltons Dodge Neon 2000-2003 (Chilton's Total Car Care Repair Manual) with you as removal of some of these parts can be confusing at first. Once I got the new system installed the car would not idle, then after much fiddling I got it to work. The check engine light comes on for a bit while the system readjusts to the new intake. I did not like the breather hose they sent with, it was just to short. I went to autozone, bought 3 feet of 1" radiator hose, cut that and used it instead. If you look at the AEM site (http://www.aempower.com/ViewProduct.aspx?ProductID=90 ) you will find "21-422 2000 Dodge Neon SOHC CAS.pdf" it gives the AEM statistics on how much power gains to expect. The largest gain was at 4500rpm being 6.6hp and 7.7 ft-lb. Don't expect your neon to be a race car after installing this, even if the intake does sound like one.One problem I have had that I have not been able to diagnose was a loud hum the car sometimes makes when idling. I do not know if this is a problem with my installation or something else.If you live in a heavy weather area this may be helpful to you. AEM 20-401S Intake Bypass Valve
